‘I want to lotu and live amongst the stars’ – Joeli Bulu
The illegal junta is getting jittery leading up to next weeks Methodist Church Conference. Leweni’s laying down the conditions of the Conference on what they can and cannot do, contradicting the Police Permit already obtained.
I find it ironic, here we have the Military, the lawbreakers who bullied their way into Fiji’s politics and removed its lawful elected Government in December 2006, warning Church Ministers from discussing politics during the Conference. How pathetic!
The illegal junta have decreed no laymen or Mata Turaga may attend the Conference, except Church Ministers. I question whether this Bose i Talatala have the full authority to make decisions binding on its members? For instance, the Bose i Talatala usually discussed only matters relating to Ministerial postings, discipline, etc, but needed the full Conference to make decisions with respect to the Church’s budget and financial matters, projects, etc.
Also, within the Methodist Church hierarchy, the Vice President position is given to a layperson, so the Vice President in effect is prevented from the attending the Conference this year and this is the first time in the Methodist Church Conference’s history, its very own Vice President is prohibited from attending.
For the Conference to refrain from discussing political issues in my view is a serious dereliction and abdication of its moral responsibilities and pastoral duties. The Church cannot properly fulfill its role as a good Sheppard, if it turns a blind eye to the pain and suffering of its flock and the people of Fiji. The illegal junta in effect is trying to subdue the Methodist Church from discussing its faults and exposing their lies.
I question whether the illegal junta have the guts to stop this mini Conference if a Minister brought up a topic, which they viewed was political? I wonder what would the Conference’s response be if a Military Officer walked up to the podium and stopped the Conference?
Will the delegates further humiliate themselves and bow down to their new Baal or stand up for righteousness? I challenge the Methodist Church to stand up to the illegal junta and follow in the footsteps of its trailblazers – Joeli Bulu, Aminio Baledrokadroka & Josua Mateinaniu.
- Tui Savu.
- President.

I thought the conference had been cancelled ?
Who said that politic don’t mix with the church and religion I think these two must work hand in hand to keep politics clean.
Politics is dirty because the very people who deal in politic always wear to masks. On Sunday when they go to church they wear one mask and on Monday when they go into their politics they remove their Sunday mask and wear the second mask this is the cause of dirty politics.
why don’t they wear the same Sunday mask into their Monday politics and make it clean. It is simple and if every polititician does that in Fiji being a christian country and the government of the day trying to promote Fiji as a christian state, I think the politics will be clean.
But I don’t see anything christian in the State of Fiji but pure coruption, greed and every body for themselves, forget about the rest its me that counts and nobody should walk in my way, from the politicians, chiefs, civil servant and the lot.
Lets follow the way of Jesus when he walk this earth of ours His mission was very simple and down troden if we want to live the life of high and mighty we shall fall like the mighty leaders of the past and forgoten that they ever existed.
The time of change is now for a better and prosperous future GOD BLESS FIJI AND ITS PEOPLE.
I doubt anything political will be discussed in this meeting. The current leadership have made a deal with the regime out of fear and that same fear will not allow them to do anything drastic that will hurt them.
They are there to protect themselves rather than to stand up for their membership. They will by now must have been told through their representative in the Fiji Council of Churches which is headed by the Catholics not to rock the boat. With the elimination of the boat rockers like Lasaro and Kanailagi, I doubt anyone will be brave enough to speak up.
Our Chiefs have disappointed us, our politicians have denied us, our leaders have been muted, now the only remaining dissenting church has been tamed, we are left out in the open to fend for ourselves.
Its time that someone think up of some effective means of resisting this regime where the general population can participate peacefully. Our leaders have all deserted us.
Nacanieli Rogoimuri
It is good to be reminded of what everyone is doing, the churches, the illegal regime, the chiefs, the leaders, the different races, the international communities etc etc but like you have said it is now up to us to fend for ourselves.
We should now be prepared to wait and ride this out as in the long run it will be a good lesson for all of us.
While we wait we must bear in mind the terrible lesson that was taught to the world by Hitler. Today the Germans are adamant, it will never happen again.
It doesn’t matter how one looks at reglion because it is a personal thing and reglion begins at home from one’s upbringing which should be passed down generation after generation. The bible was given to us by God to strengthen our faith brought upon by our upbringing.
Must be wondering why an Indo Fijian is making these comments, my young brother is an Anglician priest and 20 years ago my family and I converted and now practicing christianity.
Joeli Bulu and his contemporaries were true leaders of the Church…the current crop (except of course for Rev. Lasaro and Rev. Kanailagi) have shown how LITTLE TO NO FAITH they have.
That is sad indeed!!! Jesus must be weeping over His flock because his ordained ministers ( or so-called beka) are not following His example to carry their cross to live and die for the cause – FREEDOM FOR ALL AT ALL TIMES, EVERYWHERE!
