Archbishop Petero Mataca resigns – what does it mean asks SWM?

Well bloggers, is the changing of the guards at the helm of the Catholic Church related to Mataca’s compromising with the illegal junta and his involvement as co-Chair of the NCCBF? What does that mean for Father Kevin Barr and other Catholics sympathetic with the illegal junta?

It seems the once seemingly impenetrable fortress built by the pig Vore is beginning to crumble all around him. His coup is still being strongly resisted by the majority of Fijians after 2 years of his corrupt power. The Indians too are beginning to become disillusioned as they realise they were only used as cannon fodder by influential Indian businessmen towards their own selfish ends, as was in the past.

The jailing of the 9 men convicted of Manslaughter against Sakiusa Rabaka have really rattled their cages because all of a sudden, Vore’s promise of no prosecution is a lie. Now we have the solider accused for Nimilote Verebasaga’s murder trying to cling on to the Immunity Clause which Justice Daniel Gounder will rule on. Justice Goundar should heed his contemporaries in the Solomon Islands in their interpretation of the Honiara Peace Accord, that murder does not come within the Amnesty Agreement because it contravened International Humanitarian Laws and the same case in Fiji.

Now returning to Petero Mataca, his alliance with the devil Vore has forever tarnished his reputation and despite all his good deeds over 50 years of faithful service to the Catholic Church, he will be remembered as the Archbishop who forgot his calling and compromised with the devil! SWM wishes to ask Mataca – was it worth it?

The Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Archbishop Petero Mataca has resigned.

He confirmed this today, in an interview with One National News.

His Grace will continue in the position, until a replacement is found.

The Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji and Rotuma is now calling it quits after thirty four years as Archbishop of Suva.

Archbishop Petero Mataca told One National News he had written to the Head of the Roman Catholic Church in June last year requesting his resignation after turning 75 years old in April.

Under the Church law, Archbishops can request for their resignation after turning 75.

This was accepted by the Pope, with a response received late last year.

While the process of finding another replacement to take at least 6 months to one year, Archbishop Mataca says he will remain in office until then.

After 34 years as the Archbishop of Suva and 50 years as a Catholic Priest, his Grace says he’s looking forward to stepping down.

It’s not known what process will be followed to find a replacement for the Archbishop.

    So true SWM, short term gains is not worth it on the long run and Mataca will forever curse his allowing himself to be ‘influenced’ by the Mara dynasty.

    Mataca should heed the Fiji saying ‘na veika vinaka e kune ena vei sala dredre.’

    of Mataca we may conclude that he was perhaps convinced by Frank and Co. that he was doing the right and honourable thing is supporting their ideals .
    So ,it seems he made a mistake !
    To err is human , to forgive divine and perhaps his resignation is an admission of his fault .
    If that is the case , then he should be applauded , otherwise , as you say , he will be remembered not for his years of loyal service but for supporting a murderous bunch of thugs and their illegal overthrow of an elected Government .

    It just means that things aren’t going so well in juntahood and Mataca realises he better had try and get respectable PDQ.
    Too late! It’s been over 2 years now……far far too late. So it goes for any other that hitched their wagon to the gravy train. Sink or swim.
    The AG; the Champion of the Underdog: the pistol shooting Shyster and her caring and sharing (once good) sister that proclaimed her as being a mad bitch; the laughing stock of Christchurch Pryde; the pathetic Gates (no good dressing up in black lace now my man!); and all the rest of them…….. far far too late!. Not necessarily so though for the rank and file that were well and truely conned

    I suspect the Pope demanded his resignation (“retirement”). Church leaders supporting military regimes and human rights violations cannot be too popular at the Vatican. They have enough trouble without supporting Satan’s takover of Heavenly Nations.
